Flooved’s cool new tech feature: Chapter Linking!

Tired of spending hours trying to find relevant reading…Internet searches yielding nothing good whatsoever? Chapter Linking is the solution to all of your woes.

Our intelligent software without so much as a click of a button, based on what you’re reading automatically detects all relevant material across the platform for you. It’s simple: we do all the researching and you do the learning (we haven’t quite developed the technology that learns for you…. yet).

So no more wasting time hunting for additional material which means more time for all the fun things in life!

At Flooved, we’re all about making studying smarter.

It’s voting time: Flooved nominated for Best Web App!

Flooved is amongst the 5 companies nominated for Best Web App at the TNW Startup Awards! This is really big news and we are all really proud to be a part of the prestigious list of nominees. Lately we’ve all been spending all of our time trying to make Flooved the best educational platform there is and with the launch coming closer, it is extremely motivating to be chosen by The Next Web for this award.

If you haven’t seen what we’re up to yet, then give our website our look and once we’ve sufficiently impressed you, please take a minute out to vote for us here: Start-Up Awards UK

Also do let your friends know about us (we promise they’ll love us too). In case you have already voted for Flooved, then thanks a lot! We appreciate all of your support and it really encourages us to work harder, be better and deliver quicker.

Good luck to us (and the other teams too)! We’ll keep you posted.

Flooved speaks to Pandodaily: All-you-can-eat textbooks?

So if you haven’t heard already, journalist Hamish Mackenzie of Pandodaily did an excellent piece on Flooved. We are all pretty chuffed. He says we intend to make “all-you-can-eat texbooks” happen and it’s true indeed. We’d like to be a one-stop shop content provision platform and with the platform launching at the end of the month, we’re well on our way. The article highlights all of Flooved’s benefits along with giving you a clear picture as to what it means to be a start-up in the world of education. Do give it a read here: Pandodaily on Flooved!

Top 20 start-ups of 2012!

Flooved is in the news again (for all the right reasons of course). This time it’s because we’ve  been listed as amongst the Top 20 Start Ups of 2012 by startups.co.uk!

We’ve recently had our beta launch and since then things have been moving quicker than ever. Our reader is well and truly alive which means you now have access to a digital textbook that you can highlight, annotate, reference, share and so much more, all with the click of a button. The folks at startups.co.uk loved all that Flooved is about and that’s why yours truly is part of the prestigious list which has *fellow* (ahem) revolutionary start ups like CrowdSurge, ElephantBranded, Flubit amongst several others.

What good news to begin 2013 with!

P.S: We should also win an award for best photo (you’ll know when you see the article).

Happy tidings from Flooved!

Belated Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you’re having a wonderful time wherever you are. Congratulations on surviving the apocalypse.

We’re making the most of the holidays because come 2013 things are going to be even crazier here at Flooved HQ’s. 2012 treated us really well: from being a part of the BBC Labs program to being shortlisted for start-up awards to some pretty awesome collaborations, we’ve had our fair share of good news.

2013 however is going to be something else because Flooved is ready to revolutionize the world of education. Studying has never been this smart. It’s going to be the year of the Owl all the way, stay tuned.

We hope 2013 brings you all sorts of good things and success too!

Wolfram|Alpha and Flooved: taking things to a whole new level.

Lucky for us (and you), there is no such thing as an overdose of good news because here is some more: Flooved is now officially Wolfram|Alpha integrated! The big guys at Wolfram|Alpha liked what Flooved was about and have collaborated with us to make our content even more interactive (and awesome).

Wolfram|Alpha has massive goals and are steadily on their way to achieving them. They aim to “collect and curate all objective data: implement every known model, method and algorithm:” and make it possible to compute anything and everything that can be computed. They want to be the one stop answer shop for each and every factual query there is. For example: Can’t solve a formula? No problem. Simply type it into the “Input” bar and not only does Wolfram|Alpha solve it for you it also links you to the source, recommends related queries and gives you loads of extra notes and definitions (should you want them, of course). How amazing is that? So when we say we’re Wolfram|Alpha integrated, don’t you take it lightly even for a second!

So along with all of our pre-existing vetted content you now also have access to this fabulous computational web service on Flooved. Yes, that’s the sign up button right there. Go on, you know you want to.

Best Start-Up Award? Yes, Please!

We’ve been doling out LOTS of good news lately to our Twitosphere and on our Facebook Page! Before we dish out yet some more, here’s a recap of some recent news that brought much joy to Flooved HQ’s:

  • Tommy Doyle, SVP of Strategy at Reed Elsevier, is now also Flooved Advisor! We have lots to gain from his expertise and having him on board is going to be awesome. Some quick trivia: Tommy was awarded a Full Blue for Boxing during his Oxford University days. You really don’t want to mess with Flooved now.
Coming back to the latest thing that’s got us all chuffed: We have been shortlisted for the prestigious FutureBook Innovation Awards 2012 in the Best Start-Up category. Over 200 companies from almost 20 countries applied and we’ve made the cut. The winners get announced on December 3rd, 2012 and we’re hoping to be the chosen ones.

A great advisor on board, 1 award won, shortlisted for another…we must be doing something right!

P.S: This isn’t all, keep any eye on our tweets (@flooved)/blog for more good news (aren’t we are on a roll!) regarding some collaborations that we are really excited about and will be announcing any day now.

Flooved @ The Computer-based Math Education Summit 2012.

It’s time for the 2nd edition of The Computer-based Math Education Summit and yours truly will be making an appearance! An initiative of Wolfram, one of the most respected software companies in the world, this summit appeared on the map just last year. However, it is already an unmissable event for anyone with a stake in STEM education.

What is Computer-Based Math, you ask? The founders of computerbasedmath.org noticed an increasing divide between the way math was being taught inside the classrooms and the growing uses of math and its importance in the real world. Computer-based math is the new math: the one that individuals, universities, economies and the government (amongst others) need. It is a revolutionary idea that is only getting bigger, better and stronger. That is exactly the reason we are all so very excited about the Computer-based Math Education Summit 2012.

The question being asked at the summit last year was: “In an era of ubiquitous computing, how should we rebuild math education from the ground up, to keep pace with and drive progress in the real world?”. The summit focused on capturing an initial glimpse into the extensive work done by the Computer-based Math community worldwide.

This year the summit aims to delve deeper into the work, the issues and the world of Computer-based Math education. Some of the issues being addressed are :

  • Society’s Changing Needs for Math
  • Computer Science, Maths, and ICT—Where Does Programming Fit?
  • Games, Competitions, and New Modalities for Learning
  • State-of-the-Art Technology for CBM
  • Is CBM Winning Over the Critics?

And the long list of influential speakers include:

  • Alan Mycroft, Raspberry Pi
  • Caroline Waters, Director, People & Policy, BT
  • Conrad Wolfram
  • David Stern, Maseno University
  • David Vaccaro, Sevenoaks School
  • Emma Mulqueeny, CEO, Rewired State and Young Rewired State
  • Jo Evershed, Director, Cauldron
The Summit stands for ambition, innovation, revolution along with so much more, as does Flooved. No wonder we can’t wait to be there. We promise to keep you posted (as always)!

Guess who’s mates with Studymates?

If you guessed Flooved, then not only are you extremely intelligent but also absolutely correct.

We’ve been making an impression at the Frankfurt Book Fair and Studymates are the latest publishers to hop on aboard (yes, we love boat puns). They have some great publications under their belt and we are very proud to be associated with them.

We’re getting closer and closer to our launch date and there could not be a better time for such exciting collaborations!

Here’s to lots more good news coming our way (and yours!).

Life at the Beeb.

We have nearly finished our first month as part of the BBC Worldwide Labs programme and so far it has been a great success and a whole lot of fun. We’re all feeling quite happy (okay, and just a little bit smug) and excited about all the things that are to come.

We’ve been given access to some fantastic equipment and resources such as their Research & Development department, Legal teams, and of course the amazing (and not to forget- free) office space at White City. We are really looking forward to the next couple of months at BBC. Things are only going to get more exciting, especially since we are launching so very soon!

P.S: We have also spotted loads of celebrities at the Beeb’s Headquarters… *lucky lucky*…which has us feeling a bit like this:

                                Starstruck.
